What is the program lineup?

Here is the program lineup update for January 11th with leading experts:

  • Scientists who are creating data on a massive scale will discuss current and future technologies and projections of storage requirements.

  • Case studies by institutes that have recently implemented large-scale and comprehensive storage solutions, including: capacity planning; “tiered” storage; data classification; strategies for partitioning of and transparent migration of data among “fast” and “slow” disks and tape; backup strategies; features of various storage architectures; redundancy; and disaster recovery.

  • Rational ways to measure and predict growth in storage based on technology acquisitions, size and mix of faculty, and growth in data produced by scientific cores.

  • Technical presentations by vendors demonstrating best-in-class solutions.

  • A panel discussion by three AIRI members on issues of costing policy, pricing strategies, and financial issues.  The panel will be moderated by an experienced consultant in the rate-setting field.

  • An open discussion of financial planning for HPC to include:  determining a reasonable replacement cycle period; growth assumptions; impact of “Moore’s law” on storage technologies; and differentiation between capital and operating costs

  • “Networking Breaks” allowing time for attendees to explore areas of mutual interest and to self-select for collaborations and information-sharing.

A meeting schedule will be forthcoming once all the presentations are confirmed.
