The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an
internationally renowned non-profit research institute dedicated to
the study and application of systems biology. Founded in 2000 in
Seattle, Washington, ISB’s goal is to unravel the mysteries of
cellular networks and identify strategies that will usher in a new
era of P4 Medicine (predictive, preventive, participatory and
personalized medicine).
ISB is seeking a Director of Sponsored Projects.
This person is expected to direct the sponsored projects department,
oversight and contract compliance functions, and provide guidance to
faculty, investigators and budget managers in the management of
those projects. As a member of the management team, the Director
would be expected to contribute meaningfully to ISB’s effectiveness
by developing policies and processes that support those goals.
Position requires considerable discretion, flexibility,
confidentiality and attention to detail.
Essential Functions

Direct cradle-to-grave sponsored projects
support and management functions, including pre-award
preparation of proposals, acceptance of awards, management of
awards, award reporting and modifications, and award close-out.

Direct compliance activities in areas of human
subjects research, public access policies, federally mandated
investigator conflicts of interest policies, export controls,
and research integrity.

Develop policies, procedures, and best
practices for appropriate and effective delivery and management
of services.

Coordinate with and provide support to the
Institute’s Legal and Strategic Partnerships departments to
ensure cohesion and integration of all the organization’s
contracts.

Assist faculty and administrative and
scientific staff with management of large and/or complex
projects.

BA/BS in a relevant field plus at least 10 years
of progressive experience and demonstrated and verifiable success
directing, managing and operating a grants management function in a
medium sized organization or equivalent combination of related
education and experience is required. Certified Research
Administrator (CRA) or equivalent is preferred. The successful
candidate will have at least 5 years of experience managing NIH, NSF
and DOE funding. This position requires thorough knowledge of
government and foundation funding regulations and compliance
procedures, including NIH, NSF, and DOE grant policies and
procedures, and sound knowledge of government research contracting.
Candidates should possess strong knowledge of Responsible Conduct of
Research, HIPAA, export controls, whistle blowing rules, Public
Accessibility and other NIH/NSF and OFCCP compliance requirements. A
strong understanding of non-governmental funding approaches
(foundations, for profit entities, international partnerships) is
desirable.
